Freedom of movement of talent

Posted by Charlie Johnston

Should talent be allowed to move across Europe freely? The Tories would beg to differ and blame Labour for opening the door 10 years ago. Whilst the SNP are keen to encourage a big increase migration to stem the brain drain to the SE of England.  With six months to go to a general election you get the sense that this is going to become a very emotive subject.

As we move people from job to job across the UK and beyond, the clients will always want to know the status of the candidate in terms of their right to work in their place of employment. The general consensus among our clients is that bureaucracy, where possible, should not hinder a company's direction of travel.

If the EU remains true to its fundamentals this concept should continue so long as the UK chooses to stay in it. Post 2015 General Election all that might change.
